Afrobeats superstar Burna Boy has just shattered every known record in the Nigerian automotive space by acquiring the most expensive car currently in the country—a 2019 McLaren Senna Full Exposed Carbon edition, reportedly sold for a jaw-dropping ₦3.2 billion naira.
According to AbujaCars, the high-end car dealer responsible for the sale, this isn’t just any McLaren—it’s the Senna Exposed Carbon, one of only 15 units in the entire world. This ultra-rare masterpiece is named after legendary Formula 1 driver Ayrton Senna, and is one of the most track-focused road-legal vehicles ever built by McLaren.
This car’s aggressive design looks like something out of a sci-fi film—filled with shark-like lines, oversized air intakes, and active aerodynamic parts that create incredible downforce. It’s built almost entirely out of lightweight carbon fiber, a key reason why it's able to accelerate like a jet and handle corners like it’s glued to the track.
Under the hood, the McLaren Senna features a mid-mounted 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine, producing a massive 789 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque. Power is pushed to the rear wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. According to tests by Car and Driver, the Senna rockets from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.8 seconds, hits 100 mph in 5.1 seconds, and completes a quarter-mile in 10.1 seconds at 147 mph.
It’s not just fast. It’s a racing machine built for those who appreciate brutal performance and cutting-edge engineering.
While the base price of the McLaren Senna is listed at $960,000, once import duties, customs clearances, and luxury taxes are applied in Nigeria, the price tag climbs significantly. According to AbujaCars, the total cost for Burna Boy after all logistics came to over ₦3.2 billion, cementing this as the most expensive privately-owned car in Nigeria today.
From his Grammy wins to selling out global arenas, Burna Boy keeps redefining what it means to be a global African icon—and now, he’s doing it with horsepower too. While many Nigerian celebrities drive luxury cars, only Burna can boast of owning a hypercar that’s 1 of 15 on earth. If exclusivity is the new status symbol, Burna just raised the bar—again.
