It combined the go-anywhere capability of the original Land Rover with on-road refinement and a quality interior. Decades later, it\u2019s still a very refined and competent SUV on pavement and over muddy grass.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although it\u2019s possible to spend over N200 million on a Range Rover, there are still constant stories of faulty features and endless repairs. To this day, Range Rovers have a reputation for unreliability. This then asks the question: are they worth the cost?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-why-do-people-pay-so-much-for-the-range-rover\"><strong>Why Do People Pay So Much for the Range Rover?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>By the time it debuted in 1970, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.landroverusa.com\/experiences\/stories\/range-rover-history.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Range Rover<\/a> had been in development for nearly two decades. While based on a Land Rover Series II, engineers made several changes inside and underneath. Traditionalists worried these would ruin the SUV\u2014but they needn\u2019t have. From its initial debut, the Range Rover was amazingly popular.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The SUV had strong but clean styling; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thrillist.com\/cars\/20-things-you-didn-t-know-about-land-rover-the-history-of-the-british-suv-maker\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\"><em>Thrillist <\/em>reports<\/a> it was even displayed at the Louvre. The interior was still wash-down but upscale and comfortable. It was also one of the first SUVs to offer permanent four-wheel drive. This, plus the split tailgate that can turn into a seat for weary outdoor explorers, has continued into the present day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, the Range Rover is no longer a single SUV. But from the \u2018entry-level\u2019 Evoque all the way to the almost N200 million <a href=\"http:\/\/carlots.ng\/motoring\/how-much-is-the-2023-land-rover-range-rover-autobiography-in-nigeria\/\">Autobiography<\/a> SV, all have been praised for styling, high-quality interior, and ability to conquer any terrain. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motortrend.com\/news\/2020-range-rover-evoque-deeper-dive-quick-off-road-drive\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\"><em>Motor Trend<\/em> reports<\/a> that even the city-focused Evoque can move almost 2 feet deep into the water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.landroverusa.com\/vehicles\/range-rover\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">The Range Rover<\/a> has also kept pace with modern technology. The 2013 model was one of the first SUVs to feature an aluminium unibody. Air suspension helps the lineup adapt to both on- and off-road situations and is linked to the SUV\u2019s traction control and Terrain ResponseTM system. There\u2019s also an active locking rear differential and what is essentially an off-road cruise control system. Land Rover, even on the Evoque, also lets drivers use the SUV\u2019s multiple cameras to see the ground around them and avoid obstacles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, all this fancy tech does come at a price. And not just when customers put down their deposits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-are-the-issues-of-the-range-rover\"><strong>What Are The Issues of the Range Rover?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.caranddriver.com\/reviews\/a25574981\/2018-range-rover-velar-reliability-maintenance-20k-update\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\"><em>Car and Driver noted<\/em><\/a> electrical issues in both the <a href=\"http:\/\/carlots.ng\/motoring\/2016-range-rover-vogue\/\">2016 Range Rover<\/a> diesel and 2018 Velar used for long-term reviews. Random error and warning lights, infotainment glitches\u2014sometimes the digital gauge cluster wouldn\u2019t turn on. In a vehicle reliability survey performed by What Car, this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-6136185\/Range-Rover-Land-Rover-models-named-Britains-unreliable.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">report <\/a>noted that 2 of the 5 most unreliable vehicles were Range Rover models.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Car and Driver<\/em> didn\u2019t suffer any suspension issues. However, this other car critic <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autotrader.com\/car-shopping\/buying-used-range-rover-everything-you-need-know-239295\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">reported <\/a>that the air suspension causes so many headaches people looking at a used Range Rover should make sure it was converted to coil springs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-why-does-the-range-rover-need-so-much-repair\"><strong>Why Does the Range Rover Need So Much Repair?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>It isn\u2019t unusual for redesigned SUVs to suffer reliability issues. A new design, new features\u2014there\u2019ll be bugs to work out. But <a href=\"http:\/\/carlots.ng\/motoring\/why-the-2023-land-rover-range-rover-best-suv-for-nigeria-road-top-features-and-security-system\/\">Land Rover<\/a> hasn\u2019t redesigned the Range Rover for several years. And yet, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.consumerreports.org\/cars\/land-rover\/range-rover-velar\/2020\/overview\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\"><em>Consumer Reports<\/em> still<\/a> gives every Range Rover its lowest reliability rating. And still, people continue to buy them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Part of this reliability issue\u2014which <em>Autotrader<\/em> reports has haunted the Range Rover from the beginning, may stem from what makes the SUV so desirable. Range Rover customers expect a luxurious and \u2018special\u2019 experience from their vehicles.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This means Land Rover has to spend quite a lot of money developing new features, improving technology, and often making unique switchgear. This means the Range Rover costs a lot and doesn\u2019t necessarily benefit from the economies of scale.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-is-the-range-rover-worth-it\"><strong>Is The Range Rover Worth It?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As always, it depends. If you want a luxury off-road SUV and can afford to buy one new, yes. Although many owners never use the Range Rover to its fullest extent, it really is equally at home in the city and countryside. If you can live with the headache of waiting on a repair, the warranty will at least keep costs down.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Conclusion<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In all of this, a Range Rover probably won\u2019t be worth it if you&#8217;re shopping for a used SUV.
