What are some of the rules guiding the importation of Japanese-used cars in Nigeria today? Here are the highlighted rules and regulations any person importing used Japanese cars into Nigeria must abide by Nigerian custom.

  1. The custom-recommended destination port is Apapa and Lagos.
  2. The expected time of shipment for the vehicle is between 34-44 days.
  3. The recommended shipping line is 3MO Shipping & Trading Company Limited.
  4. No inspection is required.
  5. All used cars from Japan imported to Nigeria must be left-hand driven.
  6. The car imported must be at most 8 years old from the date of first registration.

  • Bill of lading
  • Bill of entry
  • Marine insurance policy (issued by a Nigerian firm)
  • Evidence of payment of VAT. 
  • Approved Form M: Form “M” can be processed by any person importing used cars into Nigeria through any authorized commercial/merchant bank. The authorized banks shall be responsible for delivering all Forms “M” (including those for imports excluded from inspection) to the appointed inspection agents’ liaison offices in Nigeria.
