Still the car Nigeria measures reliability against

Ask a mechanic on any major road in Lagos or Abuja what they would buy with their own money and the Camry comes up more than anything else. The reputation runs on two decades of tokunbo imports that keep clearing 200,000km on routine maintenance alone, with parts that are everywhere and cheap precisely because the car is everywhere -- a roadside vulcanizer's apprentice can source a used Camry part faster than a dealer can source one for almost anything else on the road.
None of that makes it an exciting car. The cabin plastics on the 2012-2017 body feel built to a budget even when the mechanicals are not, and resale strength has more to do with shrinking supply of good ones than demand growing. What the Camry is actually selling is the maintenance math: buy right, service on schedule, and it will still be on the road in ten years, which is the only thing that matters for a car bought to be driven every single day.
