sedans have been the best-selling cars in Nigeria's automotive landscape for decades. Small sedans like the Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla remain some of the best ways to stretch your Naira, while electrified models such as the Honda Accord Hybrid and Toyota Camry Hybrid offer new ways to save money on fuel or avoid the petrol pump altogether.
Sporty sedans like the Hyundai Elantra N and BMW M3 provide practical alternatives to often cramped two-door sports cars. For refinement, premium sedans like the BMW 5 Series and Mercedes-Benz S-Class are unmatched.
Many economy cars used to offer this option, and the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry featured V6 engines until 2017 and 2024, respectively. Although there are no V6-powered sedans from mainstream manufacturers, we searched for the most affordable model currently available and the next cheapest option.
Here is the Most Affordable Sedan You Can Buy In Nigeria this 2025
At the top of our list is the remarkably affordable 2024 Hyundai Elantra, which boasts a stylish appearance and several high-end features that enhance its allure, starting at ₦45,841,248.00. It offers three powertrains, beginning with a base four-cylinder engine producing 147 horsepower. Want more power? Consider the N Line trim, which features a turbocharged engine with 201 horses. If fuel efficiency is your priority, there’s also a hybrid variant, rated for up to 58 mpg on the motorway. All trims come equipped with decent features, but desirable optional upgrades include a dual-screen infotainment system, adaptive cruise control, and faux-leather upholstery that convincingly mimics genuine leather.
Hyundai's compact car has received a facelift, showcasing a sharper front end, updated exterior lighting, and new alloy wheels. There are various new colour options available, including Exotic Green and Ultimate Red. Hyundai has also made rear side-impact airbags and a rear-seat seatbelt reminder standard across the Elantra range. Lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert—all standard features—now notify the driver of haptic pulses in the steering wheel.
The 2024 Lexus ES has luxury down to fine art, boasting a supremely quiet and comfortable interior, a compliant suspension, and an abundance of standard equipment. A trio of powertrains is available, consisting of a lacklustre four-cylinder, a smooth V-6, and an efficient hybrid. However, the 2024 Lexus ES 350 ranks among the most expensive sedans on Nigerian roads, with a starting price of ₦84,146,501.60.
New for 2024 is a Black Line Special Edition package. Offered on the ES350 F Sport Handling, it introduces a few black-painted exterior accents—mirror caps, a lip spoiler, and a rocker trim spear—along with F Sport puddle lamps. Lexus makes an effort to enliven things with its F Sport trims, but these tend to be only partial steps toward engagement, inadvertently sacrificing some of the ES's inherent comfort in the process. Still, the ES is Lexus's best-selling sedan for a reason; it's a relative bargain compared to the leading German competitors, even if it comes with the caveat of not being a performance vehicle.
If you are looking for a fuel-efficient car that is stylish and fun to drive, the 2024 Honda Civic fits the bill. It may not have the punch of the performance-oriented Civic Si and Civic Type R, but the standard Civic still offers drivers an enjoyable experience, with crisp handling and refined road manners that come with a price tag of ₦51,206,953.9.
While the Civic returns in 2024 without any significant changes, we had initially speculated that a hybrid powertrain would be added to the lineup this year. Honda has announced that the Civic hybrid will now debut as a 2025 model, available as both a sedan and a hatchback, powered by a variant of the hybrid powertrain found in the Accord hybrid. This would mean a four-cylinder engine paired with two electric motors, producing somewhere between 180 and 200 horsepower.
For luxury and comfort, the 2024 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Long is the choice for buyers seeking solid, impressive deportment and a distinguished presence; the Mercedes-Benz S-Class has become synonymous with power and affluence. Its substantial starting price of ₦186,371,599, upscale furnishings, and smooth, muscular powertrains define it. The latter includes either a 429-hp turbocharged straight-six, a 496-hp twin-turbo V-8, or a plug-in hybrid that pairs the turbo six with an electric motor.
The Mercedes-Benz S-Class may receive a new update for the upcoming 2025 model, featuring a centre airbag and a standard digital key. New Verde Silver and Sonoran Brown exterior paint hues will replace the departing Mojave Silver and Onyx Black. The four-zone climate control, previously available only as part of a package, is now a standalone option; similarly, the AMG Line trim is now a standalone package that can be added to the Luxury and Executive trims. Those seeking an even more powerful, performance-focused model can explore the AMG S-Class.
Unlike its competitors, the Camry has retained six-cylinder powertrains, whereas its closest rival has transitioned to inline-fours exclusively. This means Toyota offers a 301-hp V-6 at one end of the lineup, alongside a hybrid four-cylinder variant that provides exceptional fuel economy at the other. Furthermore, the current generation of this spacious five-seater has introduced stylish lines, enhancing the model’s well-deserved reputation for reliability, particularly when fitted with the Nightshade package's striking bronze wheels, starting at ₦65,000,000.00, while an armoured model is priced at ₦227,000,000.00, available on carlots.ng.
Although the TRD model is the sportiest Camry yet, none of the modifications made under the Toyota Racing Development banner have altered its fundamental character. In other words, it remains a Camry. The base trim level is named LE, but higher-end models such as the XLE and XSE offer additional features. We would select the XLE Hybrid because we believe it best represents what the Camry excels at: being an easy-driving, family-oriented sedan with a very tasteful cabin. The 208-hp four-cylinder hybrid may not excite, but the XLE Hybrid receives good marks for ride quality and fuel economy. The standard leather interior is elegant, spacious, and well-equipped.
